New Irish Sounds: Ghosts

The name: Ghosts

The deal: Two Cashel boys now living in Dublin creating dark ambient garage and dubstep. Ghosts have only been releasing music for eight months but already, Paudie Bob and Kevin Gleeson have been getting the right sort of attention in far-off lands like Helsinki, Russia and L.A. for the stunning sounds on two EPs, Doxology and Night. Now boasting over 20,000 plays on Soundcloud, they’ve just released their third, Judge, with online digital label, Bad Panda Records.

The sound: Given their love of “rumbly basses and delicious rimshots“, a striking mix of muscular beats, wonky melodies and distorted vocals. These guys are all about creating a mood, which seems to range from proudly peaceful to utterly chaotic.

See below an unofficial video for their track ‘The Bus Home’ for an example of the former;

And new EP Judge, which is available for free download here, for something somewhere in the middle.

They say: “a two-piece production team… encompassing elements of garage, dubstep, ambient and a mass of other musical styles.”

I say: two forward-thinking chaps making extreme noises with truly gorgeous results.

For lovers of: Burial, Actress, Simon Bird, Monto

In a word: atmospheric

What now? Download the crap out of their new EP above and don’t dare miss them at Electric Picnic on August 31.
