Looks like a full dance card for Saturday.
First thing in the am, Friar Murphy will be on the blower to The Kiosk on Phantom FM reviewing Barney Hoskyns new Tom Waits biography. Then it’s a hop on the bus to Wexford town to give a reading and public interview with Mr Tom Mooney of The Echo at the Arts Centre, kick off 3pm. One mug of tea later and it’s down the road to the Book Centre for a signing at 5pm. And just to push the boat out, there’s a late reading the Cáca Milis Cabaret, again in the Arts Centre. The Friar will be plying his wares between a short film, jazz band, assorted Egyptian belly dancers and seven different kinds of necromancy. Sounds like a hoot. Adm 5 Euro.

“He stands in the doorway of his house
A ragged sculpture of the wind,
October creaks the rotted mattress,
The bedposts fall. No hope. No lust.
The hungry fiend
Screams the apocalypse of clay
In every corner of this land.”
from ‘The Great Hunger’, Patrick Kavanagh

The latest Mogwai album The Hawk Is Howling is a one-eyed, razorbacked, terrible-beautied m/f from hell. Just thought I’d say that.

Apologies for perfunctory blogging of late. The oppositional horses of the journalistic practice, book promo, travel, parenting etc have put spare time at a premium. Off to do an interview for South East Radio this morning, then a bus up to Dublin to interview Amanda Palmer.
Gratifying reviews of J the R in the Sunday Times yesterday (can’t find it online) and also the Sunday Business Post.

A thousand thanks to everyone who came out for the Dublin launch on Tuesday night. One of the best hootenannies we’ve had in many moons. What a lovely bunch of people.
Friar Murphy will be doing it all over again tonight at the Triskel Arts Centre in Cork. Kick off is 8pm. Come on down.
