News & Pics : ASIWYFA

February 4th, 2009 by donaltest1

Though news of And So I Watch You From Afar‘s UK album release on 14 April was reported on Monday, I can reveal their eponymously-titled debut gets a southern soil airing on 3 May in Whelans. Not only that but the Causeway post-rockers will be joined by good mates Maybeshewill, whom they supported extensively on a 2008 UK tour.
Aaaah! :)

So high time to post these pics, I think: ASWIYFA rolled in from two nights in Cork and Galway for a Sunday finale in Whelans and I snaffled them before soundcheck for cameraderie. Thanks be to chipper windows, beacons of light in the winter gloom.
A few hours later they were on-stage for their second ever Dublin show with Club AC30 and a storming set it was too. I have a feeling there won’t be as much room for dancing at the front from now on…

News : Subplots

February 3rd, 2009 by donaltest1

Great news coming from the Subplots wigwams – the album is coming! Coming along nicely you might even say, although it’s been eighteen months in the making, the final mixes are in sight. 2009 will surely be a stellar year to follow-on success of recent Irish albums if things continue at this pace: long-players are also expected from mutual whimsies Halves and The Star Department while Panda Kopanda, bedfellows in Cableattack!! Records, just recently released This Hope Will Kill Us.

Aside from describing the band’s style of glorious instrumental blends and vocal builds, a good music journo would at this point elaborate on Subplots’ prior career, not only 2008′s “exquisite” We Carved Our Names In Glass and featured darling single Alarms but also predecessor State And Nature, released when most of the band were known as Envelope. That’s all ancient History though…this long-awaited album is proof they’ve pushed that boundary firmly aside.

News : Butterfly Explosion

January 26th, 2009 by donaltest1

It’s oh so excitingButterfly Explosion are back on stage and this bobby dazzler with Amusement Parks on Fire and the mysterious DC Experiment this Thursday 29 January is just a beginning…St Patrick’s weekend marks the second Whelans/Club AC30/Butterfly Explosion party and it’s a welcome return headliner for debatably Dublin’s favourite shoegaze band!
2008 was explosive: album plans took a massive shake-up in the early stages as Sorcha Brennan (synths/vox) moved on to Sleep Thieves and Conor Garry of Ghostwood Project stepped in on bass. Aided in the production stages by God Is An Astronaut‘s Torsten Kinsella, the music triumphed…songs from Butterfly Explosion’s long-awaited, debut album hear their first live airing on 29 January.

You may squeal.

Butterfly Explosion’s website hasn’t been updated in a while – you know what that means? Vision and Butterfly Explosion EPs are still around for your happy download love :)

Gig : BATS

December 16th, 2008 by donaltest1

Best band of the year? If you’re not sure then you obviously need your head examined. Save on a lifetime Neuro Linguistic Programming and just come to this on Friday.

Imagine, your 8 squids give BATS wings to flit away to Kurt Ballou’s GodCity tower in Salem, Massachusetts early next year. There they will record sonar songs into an aurally tolerable range for humans. If you weren’t already sure, you will be then….

News : Television Democracy

November 20th, 2008 by donaltest1

On the same night as Guns ‘n’ Roses use MySpace to stream tracks from the long-awaited (precisely seventeen years for the kids who don’t know) Chinese Democracy, our calypso kids Television Room followed suit with a full player of unreleased album tracks. I’d wax further on title, producer and influential stimulants (Hubba-Bubba, betcha anything!) but no details just yet. All you need is music, anyway!

News : ASIWYFA Sign to Smalltown America

November 12th, 2008 by donaltest1

Music-mecha And So I Watch You From Afar yesterday revealed details to release their debut album on Smalltown America Records in March 2009. The London/Derry label are directly responsible for some of the most exciting releases of recent years: cuties in this cradle include local heroes along with 65 Days of Static, The Go! Team and Lovvers. The eponymous eleven-track album features their new double-single Set Guitars To Kill/A Little Solidarity and a slew of new material ( Start A Band /Tip Of The Hat, Punch In The Face / If It Ain’t Broke, Break it / Don’t Waste Time Doing Things You Hate / Eat The City, Eat It Whole).

This latest news of signing to Smalltown America adds another layer to a cloud of 2008 activity: moonwalking into orbit with a distinctly soaring brand of urban instrumental rock (someone set a street-fight to I Capture Castles!), mini-albumThis Is Our Machine And Nothing Will Stop It launched from Belfast and strafed the rock press with incredulity. Venturing south before long for gigs in Dublin with ClubAC30 and Galway’s Stress!! in the first half of the year, the ASIWYFA brothers in arms returned to not only record an album but commandeer airwaves – download the new ATL podcast – , festivals, and tour the UK and still found time for madness with mates…and a spot of agriculture. Mhm, rumour has it that Portrussian guitarist Rory and younger bro, Axis Of‘s Ewan Friers, have a sprawling old farm they’ve been renovating with friends. Heave-ho!

We’ve nearly finished the writing of our debut album, which will be recorded and produced by ultra-legend super-myth Kurt Ballou, of Converge fame, in the sweet little town of Salem, Massachusetts. That’s right…..witch town. We’ll be flitting over at the end of February to nestle into Kurt’s chest and with an aim to release in June/July on The Richter Collective:
www. richtercollective. com

We’ll be raising money for this endeavor in The Lower Deck on Dec 19th with support from Not Squares, so do please come and bring buddies and sweethearts.
