Top OHR 2008 : Albums

Wooo, we evaded Armageddon another year! Didn’t it sound great?

I’ve drafted out a list of what I think are the contenders for album of the year. Some you’d hate, some you love. I’m already sure of my favourite but will hold off a bit. For now, what did YOU like? Hit the comments like it’s Judgement Day!

    EPs follow next week.

the katie kim album needs a mention – its fantastic!

      2. Ciara says:

Has to be between Robotnik and RSAG….

      3. Rob Cumiskey says:

Definitely Jape, Jimmy Cake and Spook of the Thirteenth Lock…great list!

      4. nay says:

I thought about Katie Kim but it must be really fuckin obv that I haven’t heard it yet…which is why I wanted to know what you guys enjoyed!!

      5. Pádraig says:

Agreed with the list. My song of the year is either Christchurch, 6 Bells by the Spook or perhaps Reading Old Diary Entries or You People Are Idiots by Michael Knight. And I really liked Do A Runner by YOM, We are Men by Cap Pas Cap, Off Out & Commuting by So Cow, I Was a Man by Jape, Mythical Creatures by Groom (don’t think it was released, it’s on their myspace).

      6. Dave says:

Everybody knows that Armageddons happen in December.

For me, it’s a toss-up between Adebisi Shank and MJEX, though RSAG has been making a run as of late. Probably Adebisi Shank since I can have my mind blown more times in the space of an hour.

I was disappointed by Fight Like Apes and Halfset, and I’ve just never been able to like God Is An Astronaut. I did get into a slagging match with one of them on MySpace a while back though. It was fun.

      7. Frank says:

Maybe you haven’t heard them, but Jenny Lindfors’ ‘When the Night Time Comes’ and Alyanya’s ‘Spirit’ would top my list (both debuts).

        Jenny Lindfors
        Alyanya

it has to be Red Kid, coz u cnt stay on ur bum for them.

      10. Colin says:

Adebisi Shank for me. Only got Halfsets one so have no real opinion yet!

Fight Like Apes one is very good too but part of me just hates it really squeaky clean polished production done on it and that terrible Beverly Hills song should not be on it!

Dukes Specials new album should definitely be on that list. It’s well impressive. Think it came out last week?

Also missing is Flinders! A brilliant one man band with loads of looping guitars and vocals. His album was released about 2 months ago.

I do think some of my best purchases were EPs though. GPO/Subplots/Ugly Megan/Funeral Suits are a few that really stand out for me!

Get an Best EPs of 2008 list together! There was quite a few.

      11. nay says:

Sorry for delays guys, busy weekend/start! I might just draft my pressies list here, starting with Katie Kim, Jenny Lindfors and SeaDog…Flinders sounds interesting but I’m not a Duke Special fan. Stone me!

Colin: EPs this week. I’m gonna drag this out for an entire month :p

      12. [...] exhausting for the Crumlin fella but as Decembers wraps it up, Ritual’s hitting all the Best-Of lists, hard. The Tripod show on December 18 will therefore be a stupendous capstone for Richie and [...]

      13. Tony says:

I really liked Adebisi Shank, Chequerboard, God Is An Astronaut, So Cow, Story Of Hair and The Vinny Club… Roll on the next year sans Armegeddon!

      14. jerry says:

ROBOTNIK IS A LOAD OF SHITE!
HE’S NOT FUNNY! HE’S NOT DIFFERENT! AND HE’S CERTAINLY NOT COOL!
BANISH HIM FROM THE LAND OF IRELAND. GINGER BOLLOCKS.

        I LOVE YOU NAY.

      15. nay says:

Ah, your comment would never pass moderation were it not for my ego. Shall we get matching, monogrammed dressing gowns?

So who’d take Robotnik’s place for you then?

      16. Shane says:

        * Crayonsmith – White Wonder
        * God Is An Astronaut – God is an Astronaut
        * Halfset – Another Way Of Being There
        * The Jimmy Cake – Spectre & Crown
        * RSAG – Organic Sampler
        * So Cow – I’m Siding With My Captors
