Gig : Fighting With Wire at The Hub Tonight

Fighting With Wire - Man vs Monster

Although they’re a seasoned band who paved their way bit-by-bit, it’s been a whirlwind for Derry rockers Fighting With Wire since the release of debut album Man vs Monster in 2007. Punching past other rock releases this past year, the record’s packed with driving spirit and guitar, gathering resounding reviews from a wide range of sources and a steady stream of bookings, a full summer schedule has soldified the album as success. Currently riding high at #2 in the MTV2 Chart (above Coldplay, Paramore and We Are Scientists, so go and vote to keep get them to first place!), new single Everybody Needs A Nemesis is released next Monday 2 June before Fighting With Wire jet away to Paris and the first leg of their European mini-tour. Check out the video :

They play tonight at The Hub with support from Laminate and Your Arch Enemies. I love seeing bands in tiny, dark venues knowing they’re heading on to huge stages soon after. Get along and make your own mind up for €12. The Dublin bands are worth that alone and apparently Laminate may be calling it a day very soon…

    It is gonna be amazing!!!

Been following Fighting With Wire for what seems like decades, through good times and bad, and a very funny gig in Rathfarnham with Halite a few years ago, that to the ten dudes in attendance could only be described as… interesting. May they take over the world!!

And what can I say about Laminate, it’ll be a fond farewell from the Dublin crowd. Fronted by the prolific talent of Derren Dempsey (who also worked with Wilt and Halite, to name but two) I’m pretty sure I can safely say he’ll be back.

Here’s hoping we will indeed! You’re well-versed on the FWW propaganda so am relying on you for eye-witness details of what was undoubtably a brill gig :) Didja bring your cam along?

An OK gig. Part of me was just thinking another emo/rock band that are really good at what they do but absolutely nothing original at all about that gig. Good songs, but I’m sure I will have forgotten them by next year. I wish them well, and I’m sure topping the MTV2 chart will do them good!

Will be interesting to see Cauls’ opinion compare now!

No originality is pretty harsh criticism! What made their songs good then, do you think?
MTV’s a milestone for bands all right and it’s deadly when the underdog gets a look-in, especially in the midst of massive hype surrounding Coldplay’s latest single.
