Photos : Vodafone Bright New Sounds
Well! Vodafone Bright New Sounds competition was a helluva ride: I was very ill with a cold and had to keep running outside to cough! It meant missing the brilliant 79 Cortinaz live set which wracks my heart. You really should check out these chaps from Carlow, they’ve been gigging and writing hard for years and the fruit of their labour is apparent in lovingly-crafted album Hopioki, a bright, blustery album packed with stand-out songs.
It must be said that all the bands on the night were brilliant characters and sports to work with, given that we gatecrashed some bathrooms for better lighting and took some cheesebag shots with posters!

Wow, great photos Naomi. Fair play to you!
What I found personally great about the event was the many personalities of both colleagues, crew and band members who kept a sense of humour and perspective about the night and who realised that ultimately it was about the music and bringing that to the people who were there to enjoy the night.
And boy, did each band put a great effort into doing so, rock and roll demands of tea with three sugars or ham, cheese and ballymaloe relish aside…
As previously posted, really nice to meet and interact with you and will be keeping an eye out for more of your great work!

Heys, thanks! Glad you like the shots, am pretty happy with them myself but just pissed off to miss 79Cz…you may notice the ommission of Superfreakz live as well, dear Duffy from HP stepped in to do a bit of snapping so I could grab a breather…
Mmmrrm, that pizza….if only every job could be so! I was a veritable little pig, piling up pepperoni, veggie, hawaiian…twas better than free beer (though I would have had you for the tea, Darragh, had I known
)
You’re bang on about the good humour on the night, everyone was in great form and so approachable. New bands are a pleasure to work with in this respect, always chipper and ready to drop a smile and a clanger of a joke…you Vodafone peeps were lovely too
Thanks for dropping by!

Heh, there’s a fair bit of debate all right.
Another commenter mentioned how well the name ‘The Minutes’ ties in with a phone company!

Heya Leigh! Thanks!
LOL neither did I. Fo’ shame! Any suggestions for 2009’s Bright New Things? I’d love to hear a band called ‘The Number You Have Dialled Has Not Been Recognised, Please Check Your Handset And Try Again Later’…
