The Minutes Win Bright New Sounds!!

The Minutes

Congratulations to The Minutes who triumphed at the Vodafone Live Bright New Sounds finals at Tripod last night.Formed in late 2006, The Minutes garnered a strong reputation for fashionable alt-rock and have gigged with luminaries such as Albert Hammon Jr and Fountains of Wayne. Last December they co-headlined a sold-out gig at The Village with good friends The Chapters after a stellar year on the back of their beautifully melodic, stormer of a track, Ukraine.

Check out the slew of prizes in store for the trio, not least a Universal/No Carbon record deal.

All the bands involved on the night (79 CortinazChaplinStar Turtle and Superfreakz) put on a fabulous live show and were great fun to work with. Check ‘em out for buzzing Irish pop-rock at its finest…

Hey, cool to meet you last night - glad you enjoyed the gig :-)

(I was the running around “are you okay” guy ;-))

  2. Cauls Says:

Well done The Minutes!! Ukraine is a really fantastic track, from the minute it peeked into my musical spectrum, it screamed something special.

This will, with any luck, catapult them onto the world stage, and rightly so.

It is a rarity for an Irish band to come along with no obvious allegiance to any particular sound/band they want to emulate, willing to discard the guitar-tune-by-numbers safety net handbook and just go for it.

    Exciting times!

    Hi Naomi,

This is Patrick Cutliffe of Norn Iron Music Management. Thankyou so much for everything on thursday. Superfreakz and myself and phil had an absolutely brilliant day and although we were disappointed, we feel this is only the beginning and there are many great things to come for Superfreakz. If you get this today(hopefully) another of our bands is playing in the RTE 2FM school of rock out in the RTE studios in Donnybrook. They are called ‘Organized Confusion’ and they are excellent. There are spare tickets available for guests and if you would like to go, please give Phil a ring on his mobile ( its on the business card ) and he will sort it out for you. Hope all is well!!

    Patrick

Sorry for the delay guys, you wouldn’t believe the tantrums and tissues involved meeting last week’s deadlines…
Darragh and Patrick, it was great to meet you both! I don’t really enjoy those kind of events but have to say the incredibly sweet people there on the night really made it a goer.

And well said Cauls! Sure you don’t wanna guest edit OHR while I get some sleeeeep…?

well done to the minutes last thur, and vodafone for hosting the event, i found it strange how two of the members of the minutes work for vodafone? and the very name “the minutes” seems to tie in very well with such an event.

  6. nay Says:

Yep, seems there’s a whole load of controversy surrounding the outcome of the competition.
You’re right about the name though, just think how much fun Vodafone’s copywriters are going to have with that one!

I’ll have some pics of the gig up tomorrow…
