Death Via Eclectic Satellite

My favourite alternative Dublin band The Eclectic made a rare return to the stage last Friday at Death Via Satellite in Eamon Dorans, bringing with them an array of haircuts, instruments and excitingly, new tracks!
Finally receiving much-deserved recognition, the fivesome wowed their way through the headline set in no time, whizzing the minutes away to a starlit, stagestruck reservoir of memory. Thankfully I had my camera to record what was an excellent show, starting off with nombres neuvo and ending with more familiar tracks Lucky Landing, Scream and The Lobotomist…dig the sampling, which begins with a soundbyte from a man who underwent the intrusive brain surgery at the age of twelve and describes its feeling as “a screwdriver in the brain“…Decide for yourself:

Great gig, I can’t believe how packed the place got for them in the end, an encore too, nice :)

  2. rojo Says:

Nice. I must catch these guys soon. I like their Elbow sound (though i hope that isn’t offensive to them). :)

They’re some great shots for Dorans. I usually hate shooting there ‘cos of the lights and the smoke machine. It’s been aaages since I attempted it due to that machine. :(

I threw up a vid of Subplots playing their single and some shots at www.thisredbook.wordpress.com

  3. Shane Says:

Elbow? were quite happy with that!

I forgot that subplots were launching that night too. hopefully it went well for them.

Andy : I KNOW!! Totally jammers, as the vid shows…gotta love the moshing teens :)

RoJo: Smoke machines are horrible creations. Everyone says they’re great for holding light but I completely disagree…the dry ice just blurs everything. I’m still looking for a solution that doesn’t involve copious Photoshopping. Was really impressed with the lights on the night but it was a bit irritating that there was one fabulous beam of white directed at Ste and the rest of the band were bathed in blue and red.

I was about to say that the band would be very happy with that comparison…anything to break away from Muse!

Shane…race you over to RoJo’s page to check the Subshots?

Savage shots there Nay - glad you injoyed the gig - quite enjoyed it myself!

Rojo - most definitely not an insult!

  6. nay Says:

Cheers Kev, you looked to be having a bit of a shimmy up there :)

  7. rojo Says:

i HATE blue and red lights. grrr.
Smoke machines smell as well. One time i was shooting in the hub and was leaning down in front of the stage. i don’t like using the flash but really needed to for a shot so i switched it on. just as i start shooting i get engulfed in a puff of smoke from the machine. I looked like a little lightning cloud, much to the amusement of the row of people behind me. Oh, the spluttering. :)
Elbow are great (though i haven’t heard the new release yet).

Lol Rojo, I have this mental image of the Snapper of Doom walking around a venue with their own personal halo of deathly smoke weaving about their head…I get panicked at the thought of breathing in a lungful of the stuff. Never have done, tho I stood too close to the vent on one a few weeks ago and it scalded the ankle off me…

Marisa: couldn’t have said it better myself!
    :)
