Can You Say Hooray?

Shocked, I am….Cork’s Hooray For Humans have split from lead singer Aine Mangaoang! Noo!

What a bitter February wind is blowing. As reported on HP.com, guitarist Alan Healy posted a MySpace blog announcing Aine’s decision to leave the band. However Tom and Alan want to honour tour commitments the band have made and push on with the release their 2007 debut Safekeeping on 7″ in March as planned. Signed to Out On A Limb Records and with most of their second album written, H4H are now on the lookout for fresh talent for the band. Can you sing, play keys or pluck a bass? HoorayForHumans need you.

Alan said:

At this stage I’m almost finished writing the 2nd album - I finished writing Safekeeping in April ‘07 and have been writing since. Considering all the time, money and effort that has been invested in this, I do think it would be a crime to just let it end.

If people are interested in joining, get in contact. We’ll be looking for a female singer, a keyboard player and a bass player. In terms of a female singer, don’t worry about being able to play an instrument. I’d prefer an awesome singer and have a second person playing keys.

Bear in mind that we’re touring the UK in March and will be doing further tours. Also this [invitation] mainly extends to people based in Cork and Galway (I live in Cork and Tom is in Galway, so we’ll be travelling between the two for practising). We already have all the gear needed and have band rooms in both towns. It’s five weeks until we go to the UK so it’ll be intense, and people will have to do a lot of work in learning the songs… It’ll be an adventure though, that much we can promise :)

Obviously if you’ve been in bands before, or have recordings of you playing or singing, that will help a lot. But don’t be afraid to try out if you haven’t been in a band.

Contact Hooray For Humans via email. or MySpace.

Best of luck to Aine and her ex-bandmates. Here they are with their Signature tune in Cork at the launch of Safekeeping last year….

Ah, that’s a shame - hopefully the band will continue. I wonder if Aine will go solo, join another band… any news of her plans?

Nope, no word as of yet. Things started looking shaky for H$H a while back though.
They definitely want to continue performing though. I wonder how the new incarnation of the band will fare? Tour-perfect in five weeks is a tall order….
