The Chalets Split?
Strange things happen in rock and roll: though these five young people set the Irish music circles in a tizzy back in 2005 and the world opened its arms to their commendable talents, I have it on good authority that The Chalets are no more.

Though they formed in 2001, The Chalets won Best New Band at the Meteors in 2005 and went on to global acclaim with their songs featured on television (Grey’s Anatomy, TG4’s Aifric), video games (Outlaw Tennis) and film (Madagascar) and they were also chosen as theme music to MTV Ireland’s branding campaign.
2008 was due to see a follow-up album to the fab Check In but now it appears the band decided to go their seperate ways a month ago. There is no mention of this on their website, MySpace or good old Thumped but my source is reliable.
It’s a sad day for sexy sounds and houndstooth check.

Their sound was very 2005, i dont think the new album wouldve been as much of a hit unless they were going to go in a new direction with their sound. Im sure its not the last weve seen of the members on the music circuit though, so best of luck to them.

No way! I loved The Chalets. I do agree with Shane, though, their sound would of been so dated it if they hadn’t revamped it a bit…

What do you all think of bands that make one great album and split? Is it better or worse than risking the Difficult Second?

Cheers!
I’m sorry to say goodbye to them. The strangest thing happened yesterday though; I got a taxi, driven by Caoimhe (Pony) Derwin’s father. He confirmed they’d split. It was spooky!

I was really looking forward to seeing a new album, its a pity to see them go, wonder if there will be an official announcement?

“Hi Chalet stalkers. We just wanted to let y’all know that we won’t be releasing any more records or playing any more gigs.
We had loads of fun!”
Their new blog on MySpace looks about as official as it’s gonna get…

That’s a shitty bit of news.

It is indeed.
Who do you predict to fill their platform boots?
