Concerto For Constantine @ Fibber Magees

“Are ya a rocker or a raver?”

Anyone remember this famous catchphrase of the Nineties? There was certainly a brief period in which musical tastes imploded into two categories and young people all knew the famous hangouts. Did you dance until the sun came up over the Hellfire Club? Or was Fibber’s your turf, with its Jim Fitzpatrick murals and aroma of goatish sawdust?

Mark Greany-CFC

While there are no plans to revive the raves at the Heller, there *is* something happening on Parnell St next month: the combined talents of Mark Greany, Gavin Fox and Binzer aka Concerto For Constantine will show ‘em how black should be done when they play the rockers’ paradise on February 22nd.
While not exactly a scout’s hall in Greystones, it is an unusual choice of venue. I’m no stranger to the Hellfire Club but spent many years giving good goth to Pearl Jam and AIC on the blackboard-painted dance-floor. Support comes in the form of Simon and the Ghost who are building a reputation for lush soundscapes and ‘couldnae gi’ a feck’ attitude. This gig should appeal to Pumpkin heads following CFC’s support slot in Belfast and the RDS gigs in early February, which should give you time to re-scuff your New Rocks and root out your yellow canvas bag…
