It’s the Noughties and You Can Have Anything You Like…
When I’d just got the idea of this blog off the ground last year, I smuggled my boyfriend into the VIP room at Castle Palooza on the premise of helping me round up bands for interview. The subsequent recordings were abandoned due to insane background noise, save for five minutes of Fight Like Apes. They’d just gone into orbit and it’s good to see they’re still sky-high several months later.
One point MayKay and Pockets agreed on was the excellence of Limerick greens giveamanakick. It’s been a while since I saw either play and I’m glad: Galway, step up to the plate. The time has come for a corker of a gig: Fri 25th January, giveamanakick and special guests Fight Like Apes @ Roisin Dubh.
FLA’s other favourite band Grand Pocket Orchestra support at the Dublin show in Whelans this Saturday 19th. Kicking rock monkerey, commence!

On the subject of kicking rock monkerey: check out this footage from Estel’s set at the Ballroom of Romance/Seomra Spraoi fundraiser.
Moving with the flow, banish January gloom with more cheery thoughts of Weirdos, who must be feeling so loved right now thanks to their friends The Grunts who’ve paid face-aching fun homage to the band in their new song Party Weirdo. Get it!
As if organising fundraisers for friends wasn’t enough, this week the Hassle Merchants are giving away their song Dublin’s Screaming Murder as a free MySpace download.
Bet they’d do a great line in Bring&Buy sale brownies, too!
Brian Cullen may not actually exist but his band’s Love Bulletins sure do…Rachel BCLB wants Ireland (you) to know it’s the Noughties and you can have anything you like, starting with their music, free on MySpace.
This week’s instalment of Desperate Drummers features Dubs The Things. How many has that been now?

In the singles news, there are several new releases on their way:
Following on the success of 2007’s Bus Stop and co-winning a slot at Castle Palooza via HotPress, Saving J’s new single Valentine will be launched at the Sugar Club tomorrow night, Friday 17th, with support from fellow Kilkenny cats The Fundamentals.
Be the first to comment on the video for Another Idea, Dry County’s new single from the Choice-nominated Unexpected Falls. It’s just up on YouTube.
Also recently posted on YouTube is a live performance of Marsa by Hooray For Humans, which ties in nicely with my next announcement: HFH are set to release Already Sleeping as a 7 inch vinyl single in early March on the Hideaway Records label.
Finally, I’m really crap at making lists and when December rolls around and the blogosphere’s awash with ‘Best Of’s, I fail dismally at remembering anything I’ve heard/seen/done over the year. Except bands’ flyers, for some funny reason. I’m going to start collecting them like Top Trumps, and every month choose the snappiest. And at the end of the year, draw a poll. Be sure to give me shout if you find any likely contenders, either via MySpace or email.
I’ll leave you with The Blonde Majority at Psychotic Reaction

and a sneak peek at the line-up for the launch of Queen Kong’s new 7 inch vinyl single So Brand New on January 26th, Fred Zeppelin’s, Cork.

Another drummer down? Shocking! Their dropping like flies!
I saw the things a while ago at the Joe Strummer tribute…..I don’t remember specifics about the night other than I thought all the bands where good, so I’ll assume their good!

Actually…..don’t YOU drum? You aren’t feeling nauseous are you?
No over-riding impulse to quit what you’re doing?

No, I don’t drum. I make a racket on expensive instruments. It’s taken a while for me to accept this.
However I like my side of the stage just fine!
