While Dubliners began charity at home for Seomra Spraoi and Age Sprocket last weekend, up north a different type of support was lent. Local band Team Fresh were axed from the annual Liggers’ Ball on December 28th, an established event at Kelly’s of Portrush, replaced by Xdreamysts (is this them?!) and a C&W outfit tha naffest uncle would baulk at.
The Freshers didn’t waste any time eating dust, hopping back on their feet by January 4th to bring the social arctic some anarchic party fever. Hitched out on a lonely highway by the sea, McLaughlins serves as a carvery by day. On Friday night it was isolated from the main road to Derry, deeply blanketed in snow . Oh dear… considering Radio City won’t fill on a wet night in Dublin, who the hell was going to brave a blizzard in the boonies for five unknown bands?
Just about fucking everyone. The pub was filled to the rafters with furry hats, wet jeans and pretty faces. Two hundred pretty faces chanting “Fuck Kellys!!” at 2am…well worth the frostbite.
