Radio Heads…

October 21st, 2007 by nay

…If by some bizarre chance, you happen to be an Irish-music lover and bored of Sunday night Phantom fm, why not check out Limerick’s 95fm Green & Live show from 8-10pm?

DJ/journo Alan Jacques looks poised to bring a promising angle to the unsigned scene with his slot showcasing the very best of the week in Irish tunes. Music correspondent for the Limerick Leader over the past six years and manager of succesful Irish group The Hitchers, Alan only made the breakthrough into radio six months ago after Mike Knightson left for Newstalk and 95fm bosses finally caved to his relentless pressure.
He came to my attention after I noticed several messages scattered across MySpace informing bands that their tracks would soon air on the station. Not quite a graduate of the Howard Stern publicity school, nonetheless Green&Live is drawing positive attention from a musically-concious audience.
A few helloes and some nosing around revealed that Alan really is an impassioned follower of the emerging circuit and accordingly, a man after my own heart. It transpires that this week’s HotPress features the man’s latest foray into music journalism, too.

So tune in on Sunday night for live sessions and interviews with high rollers such as Delorentos, Juno Falls and the rapidly ascending Dark Room Notes and Limerick’s own Headgear (who blew me away at EP).

Prepare to patinate your eardrums, these are some polished tunes coming your way…

I am sore-headed and annoyed because there were fab lights but only red, blue and a smidge of white were used. I forgot to charge my batteries and only got about six shots of the Sprocks before we died a shared death. I had to dance.

When 2006’s most exciting band the Marshals split, those of use who love black-heart rock wept into our skinny-tees and mourned the loss of what may have been beautiful. Dig out your lingerie and get ready to cream because the masterminds behind Ireland’s closest cousins to The White Stripes have returned, minus two but added three, in the shape of Television Room.
