Festival Tips With Celina Murphy Festival Tips | Comments Off
Day trippers look away now, this wee nugget of advice is for campers, caravaners and teepee-dwellers only. While earphones, a good mattress and your favourite stuffed owl Irving will all help you get a pleasant night's kip, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to catch sufficient ZZZs to last you the whole weekend. 72 hours is a hella long time to be on your feet, so make sure to take a disco nap during the afternoon to recharge those batteries. You'd be surprised at the effect a cheeky snooze can have on your energy levels come 4am.

Oxegen's not the only festival to suggest you bring an afro and a feather boa with you in your knapsack, but the Punchestown massive certainly seem to embrace the custom with the widest arms. If you're planning on giving Fancy Dress Fridays a go, do consider that polyester, rubber and synthestic fur are only going to get itchier as the night goes on. If, on the other hand,  you're determined to make yourself as uncomfortable as possible, I heartily recommend the old costume within a costume gag – bunny dressed as Cleopatra? Gorilla dressed as a flapper? The mind reels...

Festival Tip! – Faking It Festival Tips | Comments Off
Don’t pretend you know the lyrics to a song when you don't , there's no easier way to look like a complete tosser (and music novice besides!). Go for a bit of air punching or heck, even air guitar.

Festival Tip! – Neighbourly love Festival Tips | Comments Off
Make friends with your neighbours. Help them pitch their tent, share your biscuits and chill out. You’ll be glad of them when they stop someone trying to pinch your wellies or tent pegs.

Festival Tip! – Look out for new acts Festival Tips | Comments Off
Be musically adventurous - try to see a band you’ve never heard of. There are plenty of mega-stars in waiting catching their first big break on the festival circuit. You never know what you could be missing. Rock up to a smaller stage early in the afternoon and you might just catch a future headliner. And let’s face it, if they make it big enough, you’ll probably tell everyone you were there anyway.

Festival Tip! – festival shopping Festival Tips | Comments Off
Festival shopping Start buying your festival gear (the biggies - tent, rain gear, sleeping bag and wellies) bit by bit. Make sure your tent is waterproof and comes with enough pegs. There's nothing sadder than a deflated tent floating downstream. Paying over the odds for the last pair of wellies on the shelf out of desperation is not a good start to your festival experience.

Festival Tip! – clever camping Festival Tips | Comments Off
Make your own tent stand out Use your time wisely on the bus down to make a flag of the most obscure country you can think of - you'll never lose your tent again or will have to give the directions of "turn left at the big, green tent..." Bhutan is a personal favourite or make an Israeli flag, a Palestinian flag, place them together and what do you get? World peace!

Oxegen announce ticket scheme extension Festival Tips, Oxegen 2009 | Comments Off
Festival goers will be happy to hear that Oxegen’s ticket deposit scheme has been extended to allow fans to pay €120 now and the rest by June 19. After receiving such positive feedback when the scheme was first introduced in March, Oxegen organisers MCD have agreed to re-introduce the scheme, allowing strapped-for-cash fans the chance to spread their payments. The new recession-proof initiative will allow music fans to spread the cost of their festival ticket purchase over a number of weeks rather than forking out the full ticket price at once. The concept is open to those who have yet to purchase tickets ...
