A free festival celebrating Ireland's current jazz generation will take place in Dublin's Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, at the end of the month.
'Down With Jazz' pokes fun at the events of 1934, whereby Leitrim priest Fr. Peter Conefrey made his feelings about the genre known -
He declared jazz to be: "Music borrowed from the savages of Africa by the anti-God society, with the object of destroying morals and religion”.
Amen! Unbelievably (or maybe believably - we are talking '30s Catholic Ireland here), Conefrey then led a mob against the 'evils of jazz' on New Year's Day, 1934.
He certainly wouldn't enjoy ...
