We’re really getting into the heart of the Irish festival season at the moment, with the schedule still looking completely packed! So here’s a quick round up of what’s going on and on the horizon.
Going on at the moment we have the Le Ceile festival in Oldcastle, Co.Meath which kicked off yesterday in Oldcastle, Co.Meath and Féile an Phobail (the West Belfast festival) which has been ongoing from July 21.
This weekend is the (always!) much anticipated August bank holiday weekend and as such has a multitude of festivals on go. These include Castlepalooza in Tullamore, Co.Offaly on August 1 & 2 and the Indiependence festival in Michelstown, Co.Cork on the same dates. In addition to this, Metallica will be headlining an all-day gig Marlay Park on Friday, with Fatboy Slim doing likewise the following evening. Taking place towards the end of August is the Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Culture, which is on August 29 and 30.
Things don’t let up in September with the obvious highlight of the annual Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co.Laois sharing the month with the Bulmer’s International Comedy Festival which lasts from September 6 – 27. Also going on is the Cois Fhairraige festvial in Kilkee and for those more interested in trad music, there’s the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival later in the month.
